We have a Planned Admission Number of 40 and we split year groups to make class sizes manageable and to facilitate high quality education and learning for all children. Where we make splits these are generally based on mathematical attainment as the initial and main indicator. The youngest year group (Reception) are not split in this way because they are new to us and the two Year R/Year 1 classes are parallel.
We believe this to be the best way to organise our school and one which is educationally sound. Mathematics is very much a progressive subject and one which can be best learnt and taught with a small range of ability. There will be a range of abilities in other subjects and this can be used to good effect to enrich the learning. In addition we have no setting for maths or English and this means that effective cross curricular links can be made in all sorts of ways to further support a rich curriculum.
